About the work: Inspried by vintage Indian matchbox designs, Zehra re-uses this in her work. Matches and matchboxes have been a recurring motif in her work for a long time, her reclaiming her fear that things will go up in flames by depicting the matches in various forms.
About the aritst: Zehra Marikar is a 24-year-old multimedia artist, curator, creative practitioner, and entrepreneur based in London, from Chennai, India. Her art interweaves her reflections on home and identity and works with multiple mediums to explore how culture and geography shape notions of the self.
